Question about nails?

I just bought kiss acrylic nail kit. I like it and it lasts and it's durable. The question that I have is that. Does it actually destroy your nails. I want to grow my nails but I can't. I tried it for so many years and I cnt do it at all. So growing my nails is not an option. It cracks it breaks it bends. Its a real pain in the neck. I was thinking what can I do for my nails to last really long. Is there something specific. For example getting gel nIls done and using a UV light or something like that. In addition to all of that since I'm wearing my aCrylic nails is it possible for me to put nail polish on and then take it off. Or will it just mess it up. Thank you.
