Makeup doesn't look right on me?

I'm 15 and I've always liked the natural beauty, but my mom wanted me to try makeup, so I am. I started out with eyeliner and it doesn't look right---at all! I put such a small amount on and it looks like I don't know how to put it on or I'm a tramp--let's just say it looks bad. Do you think it would be okay just to wear concealer and foundation on so it looks like I have clear skin? I'm blonde, have blue eyes and a really light complexion, so I was wondering if maybe I should try a brown or something a little less harsh? (I got black eyeliner) I don't know if I'm just not putting it on right or what but it looks bad. Thanks!
